I think all of the above. I also think young readers need to be encouraged to read what they like because reading did take a hit during the pandemic, and, like any muscle, their minds need retraining. Bring them in with short and fast reads, and then they'll be interested in reading longer and slower.
I completely agree. Building the habit matters more than where someone starts. Once people discover the joy of reading, they'll naturally grow into longer and more challenging books.
