This is such a helpful post that demystifies the self-publishing process.

Thanks!! It certainly is a mystery. And the number of steps is staggering. I wish some brilliant person would bring it all together as a business.

I self-published my middle grade environmental fantasy and I couldn’t be happier.

After my publisher closed their doors in 2017, I got the rights back to my first thriller. I decided I was too old (and impatient) to spend 2-3 years looking for a new agent and publisher. I opted to indie-pub and have been there ever since.

The ability to release books on my schedule, not a publisher's, became esp. important when the 2020 pandemic hit and the trad world shut down. I released four books that year. My poor friends were stuck in the trad pipeline with cancelled appearances and cancelled promo due to delayed release dates. Felt so bad for them.

D2D has been very helpful but I agree with your son about their print book quality. I've tried repeatedly to upload to IS but their system is glitchy and their customer service doesn't respond. Hope you have better luck than I did.

Oh, that's good to know (I think...) - I hope to have some luck with Ingram. I'll definitely let everyone know!

And good for you going indy!!
