Janet, how do I always end up reading your craft posts right when I need them? I've been struggling with the beginning of a new project, particularly with where to put backstory and how much to include in the opening chapters. I had never heard "no backstory until page 30," but honestly, it makes sense. I appreciate having a clear goal to aim for now, maybe it will help me stop flailing around and get this thing going :)

Great advice. Thank you! I’m writing a sequential middle grade series. The books stand alone but the plot continues through the books. It’s tricky to balance a recap of where things are with what you suggest about first pages. I’d love info on that, if you decide to write another post on the subject 😊
