Have you ever been with friends when one of them starts telling the group about an incident, and pretty soon everyone is drifting off because the story is going nowhere? A story going nowhere is what happens when it’s merely a string of events.
Or you may have read (or written) a story that begins like this: I woke up and after brushing my teeth, grabbed a cup of coffee and the newspaper. And then breakfast. I got dressed and ready for my day.
