This morning while listening to the news I heard a discussion about how to best achieve those goals that we want so badly, but that often elude us.
Fact: the one thing we have the least of is…time. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, it’s a certainty that you’ll run out of time.
I didn’t start writing my first children’s book until I was in my mid-40s, and I wasn’t published until I was in my mid-50s. I wish I’d started sooner – but I’m really, really happy I dove in when I did, and didn’t wait one more minute.
One reason why I’m making it my priority to do the things I love right now is because time is such a precious resource. I want to hang with family and friends; write my next book; and teach, using my 25 years experience in writing and publishing.
Because I love to teach and it’s one of my 3 priorities, I’ve created a platform where I can teach you how to write the book you’ve always wanted to write. It’s called the Fox’s Den.
Goals and How to Reach Them
The reason some of us have such difficulty with goals is that we set something nebulous, like “I want to write a children’s book”, and then have no idea where to start or how to move forward. In the Fox’s Den we’ll take you through each of the steps you need to achieve the goal of writing or revising your children’s book, and getting it to a place that makes you proud and maybe even published.
Fox’s Den is so course-rich, it’s a college degree in writing for children, whether you write picture books or YA dystopian novels.
I’m aligning the Den here with the SMART strategy (designed in 1981 by George T. Doran) for attaining this awesome goal of yours.
S stands for specific. Inside the Fox’s Den, you’ll find specific and straightforward courses that lead you toward understanding how to write, revise, and market a children’s book.
M stands for measureable. The courses in the Den are accompanied by downloadable worksheets, the community within the Den is designed to support you, and the monthly calls give you the ability to ask questions so you know you are making progress.
A stands for attainable. Yes, you can write that book, because the guidance you receive is incremental yet comprehensive and that makes your goal achievable and at an affordable price.
R stands for relevant. What could be more relevant than a course designed just for your needs, with lessons that you can take at your own pace and in the order that works for you?
T stands for timely. Within the six months’ time you have inside the Den, you can learn how to write that first draft, you can revise it, you can become part of a like-minded community. You can achieve that goal.
Don’t Wait Another Minute
I’m awfully glad I started writing when I did. Was it scary? Sure – but I found colleagues and guidance, and with that support I wrote my books and now see them successfully in print. Now I’m offering guidance to you, after those 25 years of experience in writing and publishing.
It’s not easy to take first steps. But please don’t wait.
Now is the time.
